Frequently Asked Questions

Bookings & Payments

How do I book you for my wedding?

To book one of our wedding DJs in Dorset, Hampshire or Wiltshire please fill in our enquiry form here or call us on 01202 348 177.

We will check our availability and give you an exact quote for your wedding. If you would like to go ahead with the booking we will then provisionally hold the date for you for two weeks while you complete our booking form and pay the deposit to confirm your booking.

Why should we book a Party Dexx DJ?

1: Because we’re really very good at what we do…

As a mulit-award winning wedding DJ company we’ve provided DJs for over a 1000 weddings. We know what works and we know how to get the party started. All our DJs know how to read a crowd and keep your dance floor full all night long so you can be sure that your big day will end with an awesome party and everyone on the dance floor.

2: Because we take the risk out of booking your wedding DJ

You only get one chance to get your big day right so we’ve tried and tested our DJs so you don’t have to. We’ve chosen our DJs very carefully. Every DJ has been through a rigorous interview process. We’ve met with them, interviewed them, checked out their equipment and seen them in action at events. If they pass all our tests and we invite them to join our team we then book them in for their first events at which they’ll be accompanied by an experienced Party Dexx DJ. We keep a close eye on all our DJs to ensure they continuously provide the high standard we expect of them, visiting them at events and requesting feedback from all our clients. We’re super strict and we don’t accept anything less than exceptional from our team.

This helps us make sure that they really will deliver the exceptional standard of service that we expect and that you deserve on your big day.

We've already booked you. What happens next?

Once you’ve filled in the online booking form and paid your deposit you’ll be sent a confirmation email. This confirms that your booking is made and your date is secure. You’ll also be sent your music request sheet for you to fill in with your song requests.

There’s nothing else to do then until much closer to your wedding.

One month before your wedding we’ll email you to remind you to fill in your playlist and pay your balance. These both need to be completed at least 2 weeks before your big day.

Once you’ve sent your playlist back to us we’ll give you a call to run through and confirm all your booking details one last time before the big day. We’ll also contact your venue with our insurance certificates and to check access etc with them.

Your playlist will be passed on to your DJ and he will give you a call to discuss it with you and make sure he really understand what your looking for on the night.

Then that’s it… we’re all set and ready for your party!

How much do you charge for a mobile wedding disco and DJ?

  • Card on our secure website
  • Paypal (3% processing fee)

What areas do you cover?

We currently cover Dorset (including Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Swanage, Wareham, Wimborne etc), Hampshire (including The New Forest, Burley, Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Southampton, Winchester etc) and Wiltshire (including Salisbury, Wilton, Chippenham etc). If your venue is not in these counties we still may be able to help. Just get in touch and we’ll see what we can do for you.

My mate says he can DJ for £100. Can you match this?

In short – No. As a proffesional wedding DJ company we pride ourselves on providing you with the very best wedding DJs in the area. We understand that we’re not the cheapest around but when you only get one shot at getting it right you don’t want cheap entertainment! We put a lot of extra time and effort into making sure your wedding reception is just right for you and we wouldn’t be able to offer the high standard of service that we do at a lower price. You only get one chance to get your wedding day right – choose us and we’ll make sure your big day ends with an awesome party and everyone on the dance floor!

DJs & Music

Can I choose the music the DJ will play?

Yes. Over the last 10 years we’ve found that you get the best results for your wedding by taking your music preferences and combining it with our experience to create an awesome party with the music you love.

All our packages include a personalised play list so you can choose the music you want playing at your wedding… and the music you don’t!

When you book we’ll send you a Party Dexx Music Request Sheet. This sheet makes it really easy for you by asking you all the questions we need to know about the music for the night, including specific songs (such as your first dance) and up to 50 of your favourite songs. There’s also space for your “Do Not Play List” where you can tell us any songs or artists that you do not want us to play too.

You just complete the Music Request Sheet and return it to us at least 2 weeks before your wedding. This gives your DJ time to buy all your songs and contact you to chat through your playlist before the big day so he can be sure he really understands what you’re looking for.

On the night your DJ will then base what he plays on your list, mixing in some of what he knows gets people up and dancing and what he can see your guests actually responding to on the night.

The Djs are also happy to take requests on the night from your guests and we can supply music request cards for them if you require.

How many songs can I request?

This depends on your package:

  • Classic – 40 Songs
  • VIP – 50 Songs
  • Elite- 50 Songs for the evening plus your ceremony songs and up to 30 songs for your wedding breakfast.

If you’d like to request more songs for the evening this can be arranged for a nominal extra fee but we find 50 to be the ideal number for a 4-5 hour set. Any more than 50 and the DJ may not be able to fit them all in.

Your guests can make unlimited requests on the night.

Will you take requests on the night?

Yes. As part of your package you’ll get the option of music request cards for your guests. These are small cards, handed out on the night for the guests to fill in with the song name, artist and who (if anyone) they would like to dedicate the song request to.

Your DJ will always be happy to accept requests and will play as many of them as possible on the night.

If your guests request songs that are on your “Do Not Play List” the DJ will politely explain this to the guest and will not play the song.

We don't want a doddery DJ who plays the birdy dance. Can you help us?

Yes. We pride ourselves on providing lively, enthusiastic and modern DJs that keep the dance floor alive and play the music you want at your wedding. We’re not a team of doddery DJs and we’ll never make you do the Birdy Dance… Unless you want to!

You can see more about each individual DJ here or give us a call on  01202 348 177 if you have any specific questions about our DJs.

How do we know your DJs are good?

1: We’ve 10 years experience and we’ve won some awards for being awesome…

Over the last 10 years we’ve provided DJs for over a 1000 weddings. We know what works and we know how to get the party started. All our DJs know how to read a crowd and keep your dance floor full all night long so you can be sure that your big day will end with an awesome party and everyone on the dance floor.

We’re really proud of the service we provide but you don’t have to take our work for it – other people have recognised our high standards too. We’ve won the Dorset Wedding Supplier Awards 3 years running (2013, 2014 and 2015) and we we’re runners up in The Young Entrepreneur of The Year Award in 2013 & 2014 too.

2: We’re REALLY fussy about who joins our team

3: Other people say we’re great too…

Our commitment to consistent, exceptional standards has led to us being chosen as the recommended DJ supplier in some of the South’s most prestigious wedding venues including The Sandbanks Hotel, The Harbour Heights, The Haven Hotel, The Christchurch Harbour Hotel and The Captain’s Club Hotel. We’ve worked with these venues for several years now and they continue to recommend us to all their clients as their preferred DJs.

If you still need some more convincing then check out what our other clients have to say about us too…

Can I choose which of your DJs we want at our wedding?

Yes. Not all weddings are the same and neither are our DJs. As part of the booking process our Entertainment Co-Ordinator will find out about your wedding plans, your requirements and your music preferences so they can then recommend the best DJ in our team for you. If you have a specific DJ that you’d prefer then you can discuss this with us and we’ll do our best to accomodate you. Once you’ve chosen a DJ and your booking is confirmed then we’ll only ever change your DJ in the event of an emergecy or sickness.

Can I speak to or meet the DJ?

Yes. Once you’ve completed your Music Request Sheet and returned it to us then your DJ will give you a call to dicuss your music choices and anything else you wish to speak with him about. We recommend that this is done 1-2 weeks before your event so that all your details are finalised and so that it’s all fresh in your DJs head for your big day.

Can I visit an event to see your DJs in action?

All of our events are private functions such as weddings, birthday parties and anniversaries. Because of this we are unable to invite you to visit us when we’re at an event – You wouldn’t want us inviting strangers to your wedding I’m sure!

We do exhibit at several wedding fairs throughout the year and we’re always happy to speak with you over the phone to answer any questions you may have. Just call us on 01202 348 177.

My friend is a DJ. Can he do a set at the wedding?

Yes this is possible but it will depend on several factors. Please call us on 01202 348 177 to discuss your needs.

Will you talk all over the songs?

Not unless you ask us to!

Our DJs are professional wedding DJs – not radio DJs or comedians. They won’t talk all over the music or make silly jokes.

They will make all the essential announcements such as the first dance, cake cutting, buffet opening, last orders etc. They may try to encourage people to make requests but they won’t chat over the mic or make stupid comments.

What will your DJ wear?

All our DJs will be clean, neat and dressed appropriately for your event. Smart shoes (not trainers), trousers (not jeans) and either a shirt and tie or a smart black Party Dexx polo shirt. If you have anything specific you’d like them to wear (such as a tux or suite etc) just let us know and we’ll be happy to meet your requests.

Can you play music for the ceremony/wedding breakfast?

Yes. The Elite Package is our “All Day Package”. This includes a DJ on hand to play the music for your ceremony (including music while the guests arrive, your entrance song, music while you are signing the register, your exit song) and background music for your wedding breakfast as well as your evening disco. Please click here to see full details of this package.

If you need a more bespoke package (ie you need wedding breakfast music but not ceremony music or vice versa) then please contact us here and we’ll create a unique package for you.

Insurance & Security

My venue is asking for PAT test certificate, do you have this?

Yes. All our equipment is PAT tested and carries PAT test labels. We also have a certificate to prove this. We will automatically send it to your venue the month before your wedding along with the PL insurance certificate.

My venue is asking for Public Liability Insurance, do you have this?

Yes. We have public liability insurance up to £5 million which is usually more than your venue requires. We can arrange higher cover if necessary – just ask us. We will automatically send our certificate of insurance to your venue the month before your wedding along with the PAT certificate.

What security do we get if we book through you?

When you’re choosing the DJ for your wedding you need to be sure that they’ll really deliver.

Here at Party Dexx we understand the importance of relible entertainment and we’ve done all we can to make sure your wedding day runs without a hitch.

Reliability is the number one priority, after all you can’t have a party without the disco! here’s a few of the ways we make sure you’re safe with us…

  • We’re not a one man band so should your DJ get sick then we’ve other DJs available to cover your event.
  • All our DJs carry a back up of essential equipment so should a piece of equipment fail on the night they just swapit for the replacement and it won’t have an impact on your party.
  • Your money is safe. Your deposit is paid directly to us so there’s no risk of your DJ going bust or doing a runner. You only have to pay the balance to the DJ on the night so there’s no risk of paying and him not showing up. Should you wish to pay in advance that’s fine too. You pay the balance to us and we hold onto it until the day after your event when we pass it on to your DJ.

If you’re concerned about anything that isn’t answered here just give us a call on 01202 348 177 and we’ll be happy to help.

What happens if the DJ is sick?

In the 12 years of business so far we have never had to cancel and have never let anyone down! However, should the DJ allocated to you be sick we do have other DJs on our team who would be able to cover. In the event that none of them are available ( which is very unlikely as we deliberately keep some free each night), then we would do our best to find another supplier to cover your event. We have a very good relationship with many of the other local disco companies, we would endeavor to find someone for the same cost as we have quoted and the money paid to us would be used to pay for the replacement.

Set Up & Equipment

What time will you set up?

Usually the DJ will arrive 1/1.5 hours before your disco starts to start setting the equipment up however if you would like the DJ to set up earlier in the day this can be arranged for an additional fee. Early set up is included in the Elite Package.

How long does it take to set up your mobile disco equipment?

This depends on the access to your venue and the package you have booked. Usually 1 hour to 1.5 hours is all we need but we will confirm this with you at the time of booking.

Can you set up in the morning?

Yes, as long as your venue has enough space for us. Sometimes if your ceremony or wedding breakfast is in the same room then it may not be possible. When you book with us we’ll discuss the set up options and find a plan that works for you. There is an additional charge for this service to cover the DJs extra travel and time.

I have booked a band. Will there be enough room?

This depends on your venue. We do work alongside bands regularly but it’s best to speak to us if you have any doubts about the available space.

My venue has a sound limiter. Is that a problem?

That’s no problem. We regularly work in venues with noise restrictions. We’ll work with the venue to stay within their restrictions. Depending on the decibel limit it may have an impact on the atmosphere of your event and we cannot be held responsible for this as it is out of our control.

Can we create a bespoke package?

Yes. Please call us on 01202 348 177 and we’ll be hapy to create a unique package that works for you.

Do you provide lighting too?

Yes, all of our packages include some disco lighting. Please click here to see a full description of each of our packages.

What if your equipment breaks?

Whilst all our DJs equipment is kept in good condition and updated regularly we all know that soemtimes thing break. That’s why all our DJs carry a back up of all essential equipment so should a piece of equipment fail on the night then they can just swap it out for the back up and your event will continue as planned.

Do you offer Karaoke?

Whilst it’s not included in any of our packages, some of our DJs do have Karaoke equipment. If this is something you’re interested in please call us on 01202 348 177 and we’ll be hapy to provide you with a quote.
